By Jose Sanchez, Santa Fe South High School Even after mass shootings have occurred around the nation, and in the state itself, Oklahoma’s legislature has failed to pass meaningful gun reform. As other states such as New York and California work to increase restrictions on firearms, Oklahoma is legislating in the opposite direction. As of 2019, anyone who wants to own a firearm in the state can buy one from a private seller without a permit or background check. For Claire Ash, after years of moving, staying in one spot has helped her climb

By Jose Sanchez, Santa Fe South High School Claire Ash’s childhood was a little different. She has seen the United States from coast to coast, and all before turning 15. Spending only a year in each location due to her father’s job, she had a difficult time making lifelong friends, which took a mental toll. Because she had to start over every year, she felt mounting pressure.
