Jordan Evans is a dedicated 17-year-old senior from Yukon, Okla., where she attends Yukon High School. With her big family and her passion for journalism and supplying the public with truthful news, Evans goes the distance in everything she does.

Evans was born in Berryville, Ark., but has lived in eight towns and five states. She has 11 siblings.

“Living with so many siblings can be hectic and hard to keep up with,” Evans said.

Evans recently starred in a play for her school’s drama program.  As a freshman, she started out behind the scenes, helping with stage. Then she landed a large role that she said she performed well. Evans also is involved in the National Honor Society, newspaper and academic team.

Writing wasn’t important to her until seventh grade when her teacher entered her writing into a competition shewon. Evans is proud of herself academically. She makes straight A’s and is in the running for valedictorian.

One thing that really irritates Evans about herself is when she talks too much.

“Sometimes, I wish a little person in my head would say things like ‘OK, Jordan, you got your point across’ because sometimes I just keep talking about things I’m passionate about,” she said.

After college, Evans plans to be a foreign correspondent.

“Journalism isn’t just about your town. It’s about other people’s towns, other people’s points of view, and it’s about other parts of the world,” Evans said.

Her love for journalism has grown from her love for writing. She wanted to come to the OIDJ workshop when she realized it was about diversity.

“I always like to put perspectives and unbiased opinions in my work, and I felt OIDJ represented all those aspects,” Evans said.
