When Caitlyn Minton was younger, she wanted to become a mermaid. After discussing that with her parents, she realized that she should turn to her second love — photography. Minton wants to shoot for National Geographic magazine.

“I grew up with taking pictures, so becoming a photographer came naturally,” Minton said.

Minton, 18, graduated from Kingfisher High School in May. She said she received many scholarships for her interest in agriculture because she was a member of the Future Farmers of America club in school.

Minton plans to attend Oklahoma State University this fall and major in agricultural communications. She also would like to study journalism and photography.

“I basically bleed orange and black,” she said. “That’s how much I like OSU.”

Minton works this summer as a lifeguard and a head lifeguard.

“If I couldn’t become a mermaid, I became a lifeguard,” she said.

In her free time, she enjoys swimming, playing with her puppies and watching Disney movies.

“I like all the Disney movies so much it’s to hard to say which one is my favorite,” Minton said.

But she likes to have a favorite color or food each day. One day this week, they were turquoise and Colorado peaches.

Minton is attending the OIDJ workshop for the second consecutive year.

“I like coming to the workshop because I have so much fun. I learn different things each time, and I meet new people,” she said.
