Bohdan James, a 17-year-old who attends Norman High School, said of his experience as an only child, “it is sometimes relaxing.” Bohdan is on the Norman High newspaper team; he writes fan fiction about Marvel and different television shows. He has seen all of the Marvel movies except for “Thor: Love and Thunder.”
Bohdan’s plans after high school involve attending the University of Oklahoma and majoring in anthropology.
“I want to tap into people’s minds and figure out why they act the way they do,” Bohdan said.
He feels strongly about the regression the country is going through, such as topics like Roe v. Wade and LGBTQ+ rights. Bohdan said Teddy Roosevelt’s famous speech “The Strenuous Life,” which includes the quote, “The more you learn about the past, the better prepared you are for the future,” inspires him.
He feels those words will help prepare him to be a change agent, which is one way he hopes to help others not make the same mistakes such as racism and sexism.
He is not scared of adversity either. “If I was to become a journalist,” he said, “I won’t be scared of the danger they get put in at times, such as death threats.”
Bohdan has many interests but he says he is particularly partial to history. “I have always liked history,” he said. “It is my favorite subject and I just want to help people understand it to the best of my ability.”
Bohdna emphasized that he just wants society to not repeat past mistakes and “to understand why we are regressing.”
Overall, he allows himself to be guided by Roosevelt’s words, believing it is essential to improve today, so we do not fall into yesterday’s traps. He wants to assure those around him that we will not regress but we will continue to succeed and progress in life.
Bohdan’s ambition and drive suggest he’s poised to be a strong leader in the future. But today, he is working toward that by keeping his school informed and bettering his mind by attending camps and doing research.
