While Jose Sanchez is only 17, he knows where he wants his life to go. He is driven to achieve his goal of becoming his own boss. He wants to own his own electrical business, having people work for him while he’s the head honcho.

“I never wanna work for someone else,” Jose said.

Jose was born and raised in Oklahoma City. He is currently running his dad’s business: Bros Professional Audio, which installs sound and lighting systems for concerts at local night clubs and churches.

Jose has been doing this type of work since he was 10-years-old. He gained experience from his dad’s workers and learned all he knows from his dad.

He also works another job installing electrical systems in new homes.

He’s confident that strong work ethic is helping prepare him for starting his own business in this career field.

“I think it teaches me how to be independent and learn all the different parts of the business,” Jose said.

Given how many teenagers are unsure what they want to do with their life, how Jose has a plan for his future and is actively working to make it happen is inspiring.

As a rising senior at Santa Fe South High School, he’s also now evaluating how to deepen his classroom education to achieve his goals for starting his electrical business. While there are many great options, Jose is set on coming to OU.

Amid his high school work and his college prep, Jose continues to build up an experience few high school students have:firsthand insight in running a business.

“Working in my dad’s business helps give me more opportunities and experience in the business world,” Jose said.

Jose has already starting working to launch his business. He recently bought a work truck and is planning on starting an LLC (Limited Liability Company). After he a permit all that’s left is attracting customers.

“I’m just going with the flow,” Jose said.

While Jose is working toward his future that is not all he is focused on. In his free time, he enjoys spending his time kayaking in the murky waters of Medicine Park and fishing at Lake Murray.

Between fun outdoor adventures, school, and going with the flow, Jose is still always working hard to have a successful future.

“If I work right now, I won’t have to work later,” said Jose. “If I work 50% harder than everyone else right now, in 10 years I’ll be 50% ahead of them.”
