Juggling is an act of focus, one that requires balance and attention to detail. Madisson Cameron, a 17-year-old from Mustang, is no stranger to a balancing act.

Rather than pins, Madisson juggles her impressive academics and extracurriculars. Using her disciplined work ethic, she’s putting herself ahead of the game when it comes to her education. Taking multiple AP classes, editing her school’s yearbook and dancing with her varsity pom squad, she knows hard work.

Education has always come first to Madisson, planning to pay for her own college tuition she’s worked hard to set herself up for success.

“I have my freshman year of college almost done,” Madisson said, regarding her concurrent class credit.

Taking accelerated courses, and concurrent classes to get college credit while still in high school, she not only pushes herself to succeed but plans for the future.

However, while academics have come first, Madisson has found success in other areas, one being dance. She said she always dreamt of being a tap dancer as a child but never went to pursue it, until one day when she was ten years old her mom surprised her with a dance lesson, and things picked up from there. A few years later as she was going into high school, she heard about her school’s pom team and decided to give try-outs a shot.

She ended up making the freshmen team and later joined the varsity squad, which she’s been on ever since.

“I’ve come to love all of my teammates, and I’ve had a much more fun high school experience than I ever thought I would,” Madisson said.

Madisson is also heavily involved in her school’s yearbook. She started her yearbook journey by taking a journalism class at school.

“I didn’t initially sign up for it, but I’m so glad I took the class,” Madisson said.

She joined yearbook the next year as a sophomore and later, with her outstanding skills, became editor. She was assistant junior editor, and will later be body copy editor in the upcoming school year.

“Getting to help and finalize the book is so amazing,” Madisson said.

All of this hard work isn’t for nothing, Madisson has a plan for her future.

While she enjoys these activities, Madisson has a clear idea of how she wants to further execute these skills in getting a college education. Planning to stay in state, she is considering the University of Oklahoma and the University of Central Oklahoma as options for school. Madisson especially has an interest for OU having familiarized herself with the school’s journalism college and programs she especially enjoyed the school’s podcasting rooms.

Whatever may happen for Madisson in the future, it’s clear she’s making the most out of the present. Her effort in academics and extracurriculars has given her amazing experiences and a sureness in her future that many would be lucky to have. While juggling all these responsibilities at once can be hard, Madisson said she wouldn’t change a thing.

“I would do all of this ten times over, so far it’s been worth it, I can’t see it not being worth it in the future,” Madisson said.
