If you were to look over your shoulder while standing in the middle of a busy lunchroom, you may find Lyric Hill tucked away in a booth, indulged in a new anime series.
Hill, a 16-year-old Barryville native, moved to Sapulpa, Okla., when she was just 4 years old, then later a more intense transition to Little Axe, Okla., her freshman year.
“Sapulpa is probably 3 times the size of Little Axe,” she said, adding that the move was hard on her.
Hill comes from a family with unique first and middle names. In addition to Lyric Zeda, there are her two younger siblings, Willa Shade and Lili Koral.
Though Hill described herself as someone who is bad at conversation, she had no problem speaking about her family.
“They love uniqueness,” she said with a smile.
Lyric is very fitting name for someone whose father was in a band for years, and Zeda means “the lucky one.” Her sisters, Willa, who goes by Shade, and Lili, ages 10 and 13 respectively, are huge parts of Hill’s life.
“I never tell her this, but Lili is my best friend,” Hill said in her soft voice.
She also raved about the relationship she has with her father, Tony, the former lead singer of an alternative rock band. She used to watch them practice in her dad’s workshop all the time, until the band came to an end about 5 years ago.
“I wish they would get back together,” Hill said. “I loved listening to my dad sing.”
She said she sees herself as someone who is very detailed — someone who hopes to be a book editor, rather than a journalist, one day.
“I think I could help people make their writing better,” she said. “I’d like to do that.”
