Donovan England wants to be an actor. Much of his preparation comes from his drama class, but he finds his best lessons come from being a worship leader at his church, where he gets to mix his two passions: performing and worshipping God.
“My passion is to create and see others create,” says England, a student at Carl Albert High School in Midwest City.
England works to develop his musical abilities at Cornerstone Church and has also found a family in his youth group. His church role helps him prepare for future stage and screen roles.
“Rehearsals help with memorization and helped me get more comfortable on stage,” England says.
He uses worship as a time to reflect and become closer to God. England’s friends motivate him to persevere when times get tough and are there when he needs someone to fall back on.
“My friends’ attitudes and their motivation and their drive and just how hard working they are and their willingness to push through rubs off on me,” England says.
He is part of the student council at Carl Albert and plays in the band. He takes pride in his involvement and considers his kindness, humble attitude and the ability to be someone that anyone can confide in as his greatest achievements.
While he knows Oklahoma is not a common birthplace for actors, he is inspired by those who come from unusual backgrounds.
“Actors who come from humble beginnings make me feel like I can achieve something greater than me,” England says.
He finds inspiration in his friends and in people who have succeeded in life who he can relate to. England strives to inspire others and ignite passion in the people around him through his theater experience, leadership and connection with God.
