Most 17-year-old guys are interested in sports. However, Chase Bryer is not. Instead, he is intrigued by journalism.
This passion for journalism is the reason for some of his accomplishments, such as an honorable mention award from Oklahoma Scholastic Media and being the yearbook editor for the upcoming school year.
Bryer’s hometown is Forgan, Okla., population 500, in the rural plains of the panhandle. He has spent his life there but aspires to travel farther.
“My goal in life right now is to go to OU and major in journalism,” Bryer said. “I’m fascinated with documenting, and I like to feel like I’m capturing [something] that will be history eventually.”
After many years of being interested in journalism and four years of creating pages for his high school yearbook, Bryer feels strongly about his yearbook and the staff.
“It’s really awesome and allows you to be creative especially since my school doesn’t give us a lot of creative freedom.”
Bryer not only enjoys writing in his free time but also likes eating. His favorite food is Chinese. He loves trail mix and likes to wash it down with sweet tea.
“I’ve always been a fan of tea,” he said. “It’s refreshing.”
The Fourth of July is Bryer’s favorite holiday to spend with friends and family.
“It’s just in the middle of the summer, and there’s so much to do,” he said.
That holiday is not the only time he spends with friends. He frequently meets with them to go to the local coffee shop, out to eat and talk. He also chats with them on Twitter.
Bryer described himself as creative, curious and independent – all traits that will benefit him as a journalist.
