Cheyanne Weller has adapted to living in different places, having moved from Oklahoma to Virginia and back.
“Home is not a place, it’s a feeling,” she said. “I guess home is a place with family, friends and people I care about.”
Moving and traveling have had their advantages, such as helping her gain social skills.
“I do talk a lot,” she said. “When I was younger though, I was shy. Now people tell me I’m a social butterfly, but I don’t feel like I am.”
Weller lives in Glenpool, Okla., with her parents and younger brother. She also has an older brother who attends the University of Oklahoma.
She was involved in color guard, played trumpet in the band, played centerfield in softball and even worked as an assistant teacher watching kids at a daycare, but said none of those things is what she wants to do.
She enjoys choir and musical theater, performing in shows such as an orphan in “Annie” and as Enid Hoopes in “Legally Blonde Junior.” Weller doesn’t just sing, she also enjoys listening to music, whether it is contemporary Christian on the radio, or “decade music” from the 1950s, 60s, 80s and 90s. She notes that she is not a big fan of 70s in general because she does not care for the style of music, particularly disco, nor the fashion from that time.
“I feel like I was born in the wrong decade,” Weller said. “I feel like I should have been born in the ‘50s because I love doo-wop music.”
She also wishes she could time travel because she wants to visit many of the decades in the 1900s.
Cheyanne watches “Friends,” “Parks and Recreation,” “Bones” and “Doctor Who.” She is also active on Pinterest. Her pins include movie-related posts, London, inspirational quotes and “Doctor Who”–related posts. She is currently reading the “Harry Potter” series, and enjoys watching the movies, too.
She also enjoys going to downtown Tulsa with friends, specifically to coffee shops, which she said are her favorites because she can enjoy coffee or hot tea, and the quiet atmosphere.
“Tea is like a stress reliever,” she said. “It calms me and it’s soothing, and coffee is more energetic. It gives me energy and it gets me ready to go.”
Weller is the only girl out of six grandchildren on her father’s side. Having grown up with five boys, she also loves Sooner football, and attended her first University of Oklahoma football game last fall.
“When I was in Virginia, I would be at church, on stage in the choir, and there was a guy who was a Texas fan, and while we were singing, I would flash him the horns-down [hand] sign,” she said.
After high school, Weller hopes to attend the University of Oklahoma, majoring in journalism, and wants to work on the “Oklahoma Daily.” She said that while she has never lived in Norman or at the university, she loves the homey feeling of the campus.
She also has dreams of traveling beyond Oklahoma’s borders.
“I really want to visit Africa and Honduras for missions,” she said. “I don’t want to stay long term, but maybe for a few weeks. I’ve also always had an interest in London. I’d like to go there long term for some journalism work after I get my degree.”
Weller said she hopes to return to Oklahoma to start a family after traveling and completing mission work.
“Oklahoma will always be home to me,” she said.
