This year for the first time OIDJ virtually hosted two Russian students as participants. Despite an eight-hour time difference that kept them working late into the night, these students learned from the OIDJ instructors, connected with the Oklahoma students and produced media work for the website.
TAGANROG, Russia – A note from the writer: This is the first time I am participating in such an event. But I like it. Sometimes it is difficult, but it is very exciting and I think that it is very good and useful practice of my English.
During the week of OIDJ, I met a lot of people, all sociable and funny. I believe that if we were able to meet in person, I would find a lot of friends. As part of the program, I interviewed a very interesting American girl, Olivia, or “Liv,” Abdalla. My first impression of her was that she was cute, smart, interesting and she likes to read. She liked my T-shirt, and I thought Olivia liked the band BTS. But I was wrong. Her sister likes this group.
Olivia is from Lincoln, Nebraska, and two years ago she moved to Oklahoma. She is 16 years old. At her school there are school uniforms that consist of a plaid, navy blue or khaki colored skirt and an oxford shirt. The lessons she takes at school are math, science, history, French and theater. We have theater in common as last school year I was in “Alice in Wonderland.”
Liv likes to read. Her favorite book as of right now is called “This Close To Okay” by Leesa Cross-Smith. The main character in the story is named Tallie, and Liv said she’s by far one of the most complex characters that she has ever read. Besides reading, she likes to watch anime. However, she’s new to the genre and has only watched one anime show, “A Promised Neverland.” Although it was her first experience with anime, she said she loved it and can’t wait until season 2 comes out on Netflix.
In the future Liv wants to become a lawyer because she loves helping people. I’m glad to I was able to communicate with Liv and meet others at the University of Oklahoma. If I come to OU, I’m going to invite Liv to eat kimchi, which said is her favorite food and assures me in Oklahoma is very tasty and delicious. I also hope we will try BTS and McDonald’s.
I hope that after the end of this five-day camp, we will continue to communicate. I am convinced my first impression is correct. Liv is very sociable, interesting, sweet and cute. I believe that in the future she will succeed, and she will become whoever she wants, and all her dreams will come true.
