Epic Charter Schools
Shoes squeaking against the floor, the dribbling of a basketball echoing across the court, the crowd holds its breath in anticipation as the shooting guard squares up to the basket, elevates and then swishes this shot.
And then the crowd cheers wildly in the stands for Harry Lymberopoulos.
Harry, a 17-year-old shooting guard, is from Jenks, Oklahoma, and has grown up playing basketball. On the court, Henry plays shooting guard and point guard. Even with multiple ACL and meniscus tears, he still continues to pursue his passions and play the sport he loves at Jenks High School.
When he is not playing basketball, he fishes, golfs, and even collects and listens to vinyl records.
Harry aspires to be a sports broadcaster and to go to college at OU. His aunt’s career in TV journalism in Colorado sparked his interest in the field.
“I feel like I would be pretty comfortable with going somewhere in the broadcasting system so that’s really where I’ve just had my mind to since basically freshman year,” Harry said.
At OIDJ, Harry hopes to grow his communication skills and to get as much practice as possible in the journalism field. Just by attending OIDJ, he is chasing after his dreams and goals. When camp ends, Harry will spend the rest of his summer on the basketball court and on vacation in Florida with his friends.
Harry says his dream job ideally would be with ESPN. He would also like to possibly do his own radio show, do play-by-play for sports or be a part of any conference network.
As he goes into his senior year, Harry says he feels like it will be bittersweet, but he is looking forward to college and hopes to join a fraternity, like his brother, Peter, at OU.
Even with basketball taking up most of his time, he continues to work hard at what he is passionate about and to go after his dream career. He says basketball has taught him to battle adversity with major injuries and how to come out of that stronger.
